How to administrate your databases in a single click..?! (1/8)

Many Database administrators have become working nowadays in huge enterprise  environments which consist of many databases, probably 500 databases or more and unfortunately one or 2 DBA might be in charge there of this huge amount of DBs , that is indeed much frustrating and bothering lots of DBA especially me .. J that is why it has come up to my mind some ideas about inspiring a new series of blogs to help out any DBA to move with his DB administration skills to the next generation of DMVs controls instead of old practices based on SSIS packages , I mean wizard maintenance plans which have become obsolete and no longer useful or helpful for such cases therefore I have a strong believe that  any junior DBA will be a senior DBA at the end of this series and even he can move quickly ahead of competition with any other senior DBA .. !

mnay databases

Abstractly once any DBA is getting into ground at any new job , he will be in change to implement the following at his DB server :

  • Backup jobs (Full , Differential  and transaction log backup)
  • Check SW and HW integrity of databases
  • Rebuild or re-organize indexes according to logical and physical index fragmentation of each index
  • Update statistics of indexes and columns
  • Shrink log files according to a certain size without impacting negatively on VLF and IO cost of repeated files growth
  • Server and database audits
  • Alerts
  • Recipients notified for jobs failure and alerts
  • Initial sizes and growth of mdf and log files
  • Databases level
  • DTC Service configurations for distributed transactions
  • CPU parallelism threshold and no of CPUs used for parallelism
  • Basic Management polices

I am not listing everything here but I did say the basic fundamental configurations and implementations for any kinds of databases hosted on either a standalone or a clustered DB server and of course  you can add more special configurations and implementations like linked server, proxy accounts , replications and mirroring if needed ..etc

Hence, what I am going to do , I will help you out to do all such things in a just single click .. ! Awesome ..How ..? it seems like a puzzle but anyways I will explain that gradually along with 8 blogs to make it easier and perfect for your understanding and eventually you will get a single SP which you will execute with passing proper parameters according to your environment variables  such as SQL Server version , backups path ,Job schedules  ..etc and just leave it for executing with no worry about anything , sure it will create for you all of the list mentioned above in just single click F5 and you can go through its results as it looks like a magic stick ..!! Adding more I am preparing nowadays a .net copy of it to be more familiar for even IT individuals who have little bit of experience about T-SQL queries or for those DBA are still not familiar about using DMV and T-SQL  but keep in your mind this doesn’t mean that we are going to neglect the role of DBA , just it will help you in the foundation phase but still we have lots of things to do regarding monitoring these jobs%
